More than major, I believe that college/ B Schools plays the most critical role in driving placements. Three things are the most important factors:
Business School: A good brand name helps get more companies to the campus and hence placements. Colleges with good pedigree and from metro cities stand at advantage. ROI is also a major factor to select a good B School.
Grooming at the college: Some good B Schools really focus on grooming students through structured and personalized programs like mock interviews, personality improvement, industry specific interviews, industry mentorship, etc. Students from such colleges obviously strike better deals during the placements.
Course & specialization: PGDM courses are preferable than MBA. Full-time courses are better than online or part-time courses. Among specialization, subjects having tech flavor will definitely stand at an advantage. I advise dual specialization like Marketing+Business Analytics, AI+ML, etc.
If you take care of the first parameter, i.e. go to a good B School, the rest of the points are already taken care of. For example ASB Hyderabad or Ashoka School f Business is an amazing Business School which gets excellent ROI. They charge only 6.5 Lacs for AICTE approved 2-year PGDM with dual specialization. Faculty are mostly from industry. Some other good B Schools are IISWBM Kolkata, FMS Delhi & GIBS Bangalore.
